James “Jim” Iannucci brings more than 25 years of experience in military, public and private sectors to the New Hanover County Engineering Department. As County Engineer, Jim serves as the director of the department, carrying out the duties of storm water, sedimentation and erosion control, subdivision review, shore protection, and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) projects for New Hanover County. The department also responds following natural disasters such as hurricanes, nor’easters and flooding events to protect property in the unincorporated county.
Jim is a former United States Naval Officer, and a registered professional engineer in North and South Carolina. Jim is also a certified floodplain manager. Previously, Jim was a locating engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He also managed an engineering and surveying office.
Jim attended Pennsylvania State University on a Navy ROTC scholarship. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1990. When not assisting the citizens of New Hanover County in improving drainage on their properties, Jim can be found on his bicycle. He has ridden across the state of North Carolina twice and enjoys long-distance rides in all parts of the Tarheel State.
